Requesting Translated Captions in Panopto

Overview

Panopto has a feature where creators can request automatic translations of their existing captions.

Note: These translations are machine-generated so accuracy will vary. Captions for all languages can be edited in the Panopto video editor.


How to Request Translated Captions

  1. Open the video settings by:
    • Hovering over a video's thumbnail and clicking the gear icon.
    • Clicking the three dots and then Settings in the upper-right of the viewer.
    • Clicking the gear icon within the Video Editor.
  2. Select the Captions tab
  3. Scroll down to the Translate Captions section
  4. Select the language you want to have the captions translated to, and the translation service you want to use (Panopto Translations).
  5. Select Translate Captions
  6. Once the request is complete, refresh your screen and you should be able to toggle between the languages in the caption settings at the bottom right side of the video.
