Most instructors use either Points or Percentage to display grades in the Overall Grade column, and add other calculations (such as letter grades) in another Total Calculation column.
However, toward the end of a semester, you might want to use the Overall Grade column to display a letter grade instead. One reason to do this is that the Overall Grade column is the only calculated column that will allow you to manually override a grade; therefore, at the end of the semester it is useful for "nudging" letter grades or assigning Incompletes.
To change the display of the Overall Grade column to Letter, click on the icon at the top of the Overall Grade column and choose Edit from the menu.
Choose Letter under Select how the overall grade is displayed.
If you have followed the instructions in our article about adding a new Total Calculation column for the letter grade, you will want to change that column to Points so that students can see how many points they have.
