Late Submissions After a Due Date

Assessment flexibility is a core feature of Blackboard, allowing instructors to customize evaluation settings based on specific needs. When creating or configuring an assessment, instructors have control over three primary variables: due date, the maximum number of allowed attempts, and time limit.

While Blackboard defaults to accepting and flagging late submissions received after the designated deadline, it is up to the instructor to decide what they want. For instance, in a formative quiz designed to test speed and recall, an instructor might treat the time limit as an absolute cutoff while maintaining a flexible submission window. Conversely, for a summative project or mid-term exam, the calendar deadline may serve as a non-negotiable threshold, making the completion date far more critical than the time spent on the task.
