Dear Faculty Members who Teach Online

I hope your semester is off to a great start!

You might wonder why a new site was added to your Blackboard course list that you are not taking or teaching and why you are getting announcements from this class. The answer is you are the Peer Reviewer for this class.  You can begin your review now.  Some faculty members who receive this email may not have a new course.   In this case, you will be assigned to a second eight-week section in October.

Everyone who teaches online completes and receives a course review. This process is necessary as it provides information that helps determine whether our online courses collectively incorporate best practices in design and delivery. It also gives feedback and allows you to explore another TCC course. Deans can request copies of the reports.

Please take a look at the  Online Course Peer Review Guidelines, which describe the process.

This link will take you to the spreadsheet that contains  the Online Course Peer Review assignments.

Your review will follow the checklist created by the Online Learning Committee and approved by the Academic Affairs Council.  I encourage you to use the online form to enter your findings, but if you'd like, you can submit the downloadable Review Checklist.

Online Course Checklist (Word)

This review activity should take at most 60  minutes and will likely take less time. If your review is detailed in one area and you can’t complete all areas, submit it after one hour, leaving some items on the checklist blank.

The benefit of completing the review early is that 1) Your comments may lead to improvements for a course in progress, and 2) You will be removed from the course in Blackboard and won’t receive any additional announcements.  The review for an 8-week course is before the course ends in October.  The other reviews are due by November 8th.

One additional note.  Accreditation standards for online instruction are evolving.  The Online Consortium of Oklahoma will host a half-day conference on Friday, 9/13, @ 1:00 on Regular and Substantive Interaction requirements.  This event should be interesting to everyone involved in online instruction.   OKLIS Virtual Session: Regular and Substantive Interaction Informational Flyer

You can register using one of the following links

Live Attendee Registration (will receive a Zoom link AND the recording)

Asynchronous Registration (will receive the recording, not a Zoom link)

Participants (synchronous and asynchronous) will receive a follow-up assessment. Those who complete the assessment within two weeks of the event will earn a digital badge.

Please get in touch with   onlinelearning@tulsacc.edu or me directly if you have any questions.
