Getting Started

Respondus provides tools to help secure online assessments and support academic integrity in Blackboard Ultra. This page provides a brief overview of each tool and links to Respondus' official documentation and training resources.

LockDown Browser

LockDown Browser is a secure browser that limits students' ability to access other applications, websites, or system functions while taking an online assessment. Assessments that require LockDown Browser can only be opened using the LockDown Browser application.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is an online proctoring solution that works with LockDown Browser. During an assessment, Monitor uses a student's webcam (and other optional settings) to record the testing session for instructor review. Monitor will flag events for the instructor to then review.

Respondus Monitor also offers an optional Second Camera mode, allowing instructors to require a second device (such as a phone or iPad) in addition to the computer’s webcam. Check out the Second Camera: Student Experience

Note: Respondus Monitor requires LockDown Browser and cannot be used independently.
