If your instructor allows it, you may be able to take a Respondus LockDown Browser assessment on an iPad. Whether an iPad can be used depends on how the assessment is configured by your instructor.
Respondus maintains the official setup guide for iPad users. Because app requirements and setup instructions may change, we recommend following their documentation for Blackboard Ultra: Respondus: Can an iPad be used to take a LockDown Browser exam? (Student Instructions)
Before You Begin
- Your instructor must allow iPad use for the assessment.
- Assessments using LockDown Browser only generally allow iPads automatically.
- Assessments using Respondus Monitor (webcam) require your instructor to enable iPad support for that assessment.
- Your iPad must meet the current system requirements (currently iPadOS 15 or later).
- Install the LockDown Browser app from the Apple App Store before beginning your exam.
Blackboard Ultra Instructions
- Open Safari (or another mobile browser) on your iPad
- Sign in to Blackboard in the browser and navigate to your course.
- Open the assessment- you should see a "Confirm App Self-Lock" message, you must click "yes"
- Start the assessment..
- Complete and submit your assessment as directed, once submitted you should see a message that iPad is no longer locked to LockDown browser.
Unlike Blackboard Original, you do not launch the LockDown Browser app first when using Blackboard Ultra. Starting the assessment from Blackboard in your browser automatically opens the app.Important Notes
- If you receive a message stating that tablet use is not enabled, your instructor has not allowed iPad use for that assessment. You will need to use a supported Windows or Mac computer instead.
- Do not enable Apple's Guided Access feature before starting LockDown Browser. Guided Access can prevent the assessment from launching correctly.
- After you submit your assessment, your iPad will exit LockDown Browser and return to normal operation.
